Valley of Fires (New Mexico)

This lava bed was the largest one I have ever seen.  This part of the long Tularosa Valley contains many square miles of buckled, twisted basalt lava, part of an extensive flow up to 165 feet thick and over 45 miles long.  It originated from several nearby volcanoes, including one vent now known as Little Black Peak.  It was cool to see such a large bed of lava!  (Yeah, I am easily entertained!)

A little dust twister off in the distance (quite common in New Mexico)
